Common Skin Concerns

Full-body Examination of Moles and Skin Lesions

At Estetiska Institutet, we assess and recommend suitable action for both benign and malignant skin changes.

Skin cancer can appear anywhere on the body, so it’s important to seek evaluation for moles or birthmarks that change in size, shape, or color. Non-healing sores or lumps in the skin also need to be examined.

A thorough full-body examination is performed using a dermatoscope to assess your moles and skin lesions. A dermatoscope is a handheld microscope that enhances the diagnosis of skin changes. Take the opportunity to have your skin checked with us to detect any potential malignant tumors. We will help you establish a treatment plan for any necessary further care and the best aesthetic outcome.

Acne

A common condition during adolescence that can persist well into adulthood. The foundation of treatment includes creams with retinoids and other acids that address the root causes of acne, such as excess oil production, the bacteria Cutibacterium acnes, and inflammation. For more severe cases, oral treatment with the retinoid Isotretinoin (also known as Roaccutane) is often required.

For residual acne scarring, Estetiska Institutet offers a variety of treatments to improve the appearance and texture of the skin.

Scars

The best results for scars often come from combination treatments tailored to the specific types of scarring:

– CROSS Technique – Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used to treat so-called “ice pick” scars. Small scabs form at the treatment site and fall off after one to two weeks.

– Frax Laser – A non-ablative fractional laser with a wavelength of 1550 nm creates microscopic thermal channels deep within the skin. This tightens and evens the skin. Expect redness for 2–3 days and peeling for about a week, which can be covered with makeup if desired.

– Subcision – This technique lifts depressed scars by releasing them from the underlying tissue. It is performed under local anesthesia using a cannula and stimulates collagen production. You may experience swelling and redness for a few days, and bruising for 1–2 weeks. Avoid sun exposure and blood-thinning medications during treatment.

Rosacea

A common skin condition that shares similarities with acne. It often causes recurring symptoms such as burning sensations, redness, and pustules on the face, and in severe cases may lead to scarring. Rosacea can also affect the eyes and, if left untreated, alter the shape of the nose. Treatment is similar to that of acne, but also includes specific creams developed for rosacea.

Perioral Dermatitis

A common skin condition that may be triggered by skin injury or heavy moisturizers. It causes red bumps around the mouth, nose, and sometimes eyes. Treatment is similar to that of acne and rosacea.

Eczema and Psoriasis

These are umbrella terms for skin conditions that can cause red, scaly patches, itching, and burning. Eczema may be caused by atopy, contact allergies, or skin irritation, among other triggers. Psoriasis often has a genetic component but can also be triggered by infections. Psoriasis can also affect the joints. Both eczema and psoriasis are frequently worsened by stress and unhealthy lifestyle habits.

Treatment usually starts with moisturizing and hydrating creams, topical corticosteroids of varying strength, sometimes non-steroid anti-inflammatory creams, and in more severe cases, phototherapy or systemic treatments such as tablets or injections.
